Standing Cat pose has become one of my favourite poses when focusing on increasing mobility in the spine and shoulders with swimmers.
When working on shoulder mobility it is important consider the full range of movement of the shoulder joint. Quite often when swimmers are working on should mobility they only focus on opening up through the chest and shoulders. What makes standing cat so effective is that the core is engaged to hold strong postural alignment while moving through the shoulder blades (protraction) and increasing mobility in the thoracic spine.
